Do you remember what was on 23th of December 2006?! Yes, I wrote about CPT 4 for the first time and released early screenshots. You can find the original blog post here.
In the following months I spent a lot of time on many different – mostly technical – aspects for CPT 4. I think it was about Februar 2008 that I basically stopped working on CPT 4. I was working on the new repertoire management module. Since then I received many emails where people asked me when CPT 4 will be released and whether the project is dead.
Well, it was kinda dead. However, today I want to announce the project is officially continued. Why?
In Februar 2008 CPT 3.3 reached 20.000 downloads. Today we are close to 70.000 (not counting downloads from mirror sites). During that time I did nothing to promote CPT. Today I still receive as many (or more) emails from CPT users as I used to back at that time and many people ask me about CPT 4. This is amazing for me. I never expected this work to have such a lasting impact for so many chess players around the world. Thanks for all your encouraging feedbacks over the past years!
Sure, while I feel somehow obliged to continue this project, because of the demand I have my personal motivation as well. I’m totally convinced that the ideas I have for future CPT versions will greatly improve CPT and I would just love to see them coming true.
I gave the situation a lot of thought and came to the conclusion: I don’t want to regret in the future that I never ‘completed this mission’. I own it to myself to finish CPT 4. Of course, on the other hand I asked myself how realistically it is to find again the time and discipline to get the job done. I promised myself to give it a serious try. Wish me luck!
Yours,
Stefan
