What do they have in common? They are both implemented since yesterday.
A very long time ago I mentioned in a blog post that transpositions across openings or even repertoires will be covered in CPT 4. As I'm getting closer to finish the last features this was still left on my list.
Let's start with a screenshot:
In this example I opened the Alekhine Opening. Before we really reach the starting position (after Black played Nf6) you can see that the repertoire covers many other openings for other black replies. In the past CPT wouldn't show you this info. You would have to know and open the specific opening yourself. While this is not a big concern for the starting position you will soon appreciate this feature once you detect transpositions a little bit deeper in your opening tree, especially if you play openings which very likely transpose to other openings (e.g. 1.Nf3).
Now, instead of showing you just the info you can click on these moves too. Then CPT will automatically open the other opening and construct the move order to reach this position (again: more meaningful if you are deeper in your opening tree). This is a pretty smooth and intutive new way to navigate through your openings.
Of course, this also works for the Previous Branches moves. If moves from other openings lead to the current position CPT will show you these moves too and again you can just click and thus browse "backwards" across your complete repertoire:

CPT is smart enough to not show you the opening column if only moves of the current opening are available and hence saving space.
I'm looking forward to your feedback once you get your hands on this new feature during beta.
Now, let's turn to comments. Like CPT 3.3 you can still edit move and position comments. One of my favorite new features nicely incorporates this info into the tooltip for the position explorer (please note the two different comment types to the right and bottom):
That's it for today.
Best,
Stefan
