This version installation program tells me that it can not install unless I Remove ver 3.2 - I am concerned about losing my repertoires if I remove the older version. Why can it not just upgrade what I have?

You should not lose any repertoires by removing the older version even if you stored them in a sub-folder of the application folder. Some settings might be resettet, but nothing else. If you want to be double sure you could move your repertoires to some other place if they are right now under the application folder of CPT 3.2.

Massive confusion over downloading all of it! I have downloaded ' Net Framework 1.1,CPT 3.3, & Standard repetoire. So what's the problem? 1.Apart from the top bit, CPT 3.3 is a big grey rectangle! 2. When I try to download Manual, nothing happens. 3. Standard repertoire folder(unzipped) sits on my desktop - no idea what to do with it

Sounds like you have all to run CPT 3.3. I'm not sure if you encounter a problem or just have to open a repertoire so the screen doesn't look like just grey. Do you have a toolbar? Then either go to files and create a new repertoire or load the example repertoire. 3.2 is nice. I have one problem at start up. It always displays message that I have not checked for updates. What is the fix?

please tell me system requirements for using CPT. I have a pentium 4 with 128 RAM.The training centre responds very very slowly.

I recommend to have at least 512 MB RAM and a processor >1 Ghz

when I tried to instal CPT 3.3, it says "The folder path 'Programmmed?des Benutzers' contains an invlid character' and then terminates....what can i do?

This program is great, I have had it for only a couple of days but now the drop-down menus that were once up the top have dissapeared, meaning that I have no access to anything once this version is open except for those that I can remember that are key-activated. Would do I do?

If you delete the ini.* files in your application folder you should get back the default settings.

This software is great. However if I can make a suggestion, you should encourage more feedback on making this product even better. I think it would be useful to be able to filter a pgn line either by a fixed move order or position. I have several thousand games grouped by ECO file - but I'm only interested in training one particular position after I get so many moves deep and I don't need or want to view the rest of the games. I want a thorough analysis and training of all combinations from one position.

Does CPT 3.3 does it work on Vista? I tried downloading on to my Dell Vista machine and I get weird graphic effects. It seems to corrupt my graphics screen. I get black bars on my desktop every time I run the program. Reboot my computer and they are gone.

I would like to increased my elo rating from 2000 to 2300

i want to learn most of the openings very accurately so ......

my coach wants me to download cpt, but i cant seem to get it to work. im also not the greatest with technology... i clicked download at the top, and all it does after i hit open is like something like "CPT_Setup_3_3_English[1]. and i have no clue to do after that. why cant things be simple like they used to be? lol. anyone wanna help?? thanks!

I downloaded CPT and the repertoire. The board and some of the functions were working perfectly fine and I was reading through and following the manual. HOWEVER, when I tried to use some of the tab functions on the top line (such as "position", etc), my computer consistently froze saying that "the program is not responding". I also got the message "chestpositiontrainer.exe is not working". Could you kindly tell me what the problem might be? I look forward to using this program once it works.

I got the problem taken care of after I reviewed some of the posts regarding working around Vista in the community section. Actually on my machine I had to get "windows help", then use the "compatibility wizard" and I set the parameters per the earlier posts and now the program works. Thank you very much.

Hi, I got CPT 3.3 to work w/Vista. But now it only opens on a file of the French, and freezes as soon as it opens. I tried re-installing CPT 3.3, but the same thing happens. Help!

Does it teach me different types of openings like ruy lopez, etc?

I think the program is great. I've been having one problem though: every time I start CPT I get the messages: "An error occured while adding a dock control: Overflow or underflow in the arithmetic operation" and also "An error occurred while trying to show the subrepertoire: Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Any suggestions please?

I installed CPT on my desktop with Windows XP and it's a fantastic program. But on my laptop with Vista it just doesn't work. I followed all the directions you mentioned in the Forum. It installed fine. But when I run it immediately crashes whenever I click on one of the menus. Any solution for this? I really want to convert all my ChessBase repertoires, but if it won't work on Vista, it's a big problem.

Ok, I found a new thread in the Forum called "Vista Workaround" about changing the compatibility settings, and now it seems to work! I'm very excited about the program for me and my son to train openings.

Does anybody know how you can get it to work on vista? I went to the vista workaround fix that was suggested. However, there doesn't really seem to be a compatibility option and I'm not sure how to open the folder.

The compatibility options are not in the icon on your desktop shortcut. You have to navigate to the actual program in your Program Files\CPT and change them there.

What a great program. Works really well in Wind. 7 by the way. 2.3 would crash occasionally but this version works great. Looking forward to 4.0. Keep up the great work and thank you.

Two comments.... Yesterday I downloaded and installed version 3.2. (I got 3.2 because the link at Chess.com took me there.) When it starts, it says 3.2 is from 2006, and that I should get 3.3. It took a long time to find 3.3 download because the link on the "available versions" page takes you to www.chesspositiontrainer.com, and not to community.chesspositiontrainer.com, and only 3.2 is available on the www site. I suppose the fix is to edit to www site to clearly show how to access the newer versions. I haven't installed 3.3 yet, but CPT 3.2 appears to require that I be logged in as Admin to run the program. I always login to my machine with a Limited account. To install CPT, I click setup and, when prompted by my computer, I login as Admin using the temporary login dialog box -- and the install runs fine. However, when I try to run the program, I get Application Error. As a test, I switched user to Admin and the program ran. (Even after running it as Admin, it would not run under a Limited account.) I'll check it under 3.3 and post back. BTW, I've just poked around in CPT 3.2 briefly and it looks fantastic. I can't wait to get started.

Alan, thanks for your feedback. I try to avoid the admin requirement for CPT 4. I will also fix the version confusion. Thanks to your explanation some past user comments make sense to me now and I know where I have to make the changes.

I have just upgraded CPT 3.2 to 3.3 and immediately tried to run a couple of lines from the standard reportoire. So far, it did work much better now than version 3.2. Thank you again Mr. Renzewitz.
