    Re: Vista Workaround?

Going to break the steps given down. Do all to get things going.

Got to the folder you installed CPT into. (mine is C:\programs\Chess Position Trainer)

Find  ChessPosistionTrainer.exe (Vista does not show the .exe, just look for Type: Application)

    Right click, then select properties.

    Open the  Compatibility tab

Check "Rin this program in compatibility mode for:"

Select  Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

Under settings, make sure you select both:

     Disable Visual Themes

     Disable Desktop Composition

     Click Apply

The Dialouge should look like this before hitting apply:

Dialouge for setting CPT in Vista

    Hope this helps

    Re: Vista Workaround?

I was running cpt in Vista without problems.  It was only when I converted to Windows 7 that the nonresponse bug appeared.  The compatability fix to move to Windows XP etc. worked great.  Also eliminating the ini.* files soved the menu bar problems in several computers.  I have prepared repertoires for my students and was afraid hours (days) of work would be out the window.

    Re: Vista Workaround?

The compatibility fix works great on my vista, but I have another problem. When I try to delete a move, or merge or copy a sub-repertoire, there is this notification window that shows the number of positions/move and it tells me to wait for a few minutes. The problem is that it wouldn't go away even after the operation has completed. When I try to close that notification window, it says that I cannot close the window because the database hasn't finished yet. Since the notification window is a modal window, I cannot do anything else but to forcibly terminate the application via task manager. However, I can verify that the operation has completed as intended. It just that the notification window cannot be closed. Has anyone found a workaround to this problem? Thanks. Henry
