    Vista Workaround?

    Hi Stefan,

I know that CPT 4 will fix the problems that currently exist with Vista, but in the mean time, are there any workarounds to make 3.3 work properly?  Currently it goes into some type of infinite loop when you click on a menu and locks up when deleting a line.

    Thanks,

    Ron

    Re: Vista Workaround?

    Hi Ron,

unfortunately I don't have a PC with Vista installed yet (I'm about to buy one soon though) and I'm not aware of any workaround. Do keyboard short-cut works? That would not be a really satisfying solution anyway, I know. Sorry, I fear you have to wait some more months for the next version to make CPT work properly under Vista.

    Regards,

    Stefan

    Re: Vista Workaround?

    Hi Stefan,

Thanks for the reply.  I actually did come up with a fix.  Vista has some great compatibility features for "legacy" programs.  By right-clicking on the shortcut in the start menu and going to properties and then to the compatibility tab you can access these features.  I found that by setting it to run CPT in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and checking the boxes to disable desktop composition and visual themes that everything works perfectly (including menus, deleting moves, etc.)  That'll get me by until CPT 4 comes out.

    Thanks again!

    Ron

    Re: Vista Workaround?

This might help if you're unable to access the compatibility options from the properties of the CPT shortcut: go to the ChessPositionTrainer.exe file in the program folder and make these changes.   For some reason, the compatibility options don't show up in the shortcut but they do show up in the .exe file.

Hi Stefan I am new to chess.com,
Just downloaded your program and am also having problems running it on vista
I tried the workarounds from the forum, but that did not work either. Are there any other patches or another version available?
    Thanks
    Oscar

    Re: Vista Workaround?

    Hi Argengringo,

I'm not aware of another workaround. Wait... you might try version 3.2. In a very few cases this made a difference. In general I'm suprised that CPT is not running under Vista if you follow the instructions. Did you double-check you followed each suggestion?

    Regards,

    Stefan

    Re: Vista Workaround?

I can't get this to work either under Vista.

    1) The suggestion to right click on the icon and go to the compatibility options doesn't work: there is no compatibility tab.

    2) The suggestion to go into the .exe file doesn't seem to work either: Vista shows an exe.config file, but no exe.file.  And it won't open exe.config.

    Re: Vista Workaround?

I just got a new laptop with Vista and I'm having exactly the same problems; the comptability option doesn't exist for CPT (but it does for all my other apps) and I'm having bigtime freezing up issues - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

    Re: Vista Workaround?

OK, the compatibility option is in the folder but in Vista it doesn't have the .exe suffix; I followed the instrcutions above and it seems to be ok now . . .  PHEW!!!!

    Re: Vista Workaround?

I am a new user. I had the problem with Vista. I did try the fix suggested by Edward. By right clicking on the ChessPositionTrainer.exe file in the program folder, you will see the compatibility option. I tried the changes suggested by him earlier. Everything is working fine. Other users having problems should try this. It is a great program.

    Re: Vista Workaround?

No, its NOT all working fine. :-(

Its running alright until you want to add a subrepertoire, for example. When you click the tabs the computer freezes showing the drop down menus-and you need to do a PC restart just to get out of it. Very annoying!

Any way to solve this problem? The main setback with this problem is you cannot add a new subrepertoire.

    Please help, Stefan.

     Cheers!

    Re: Vista Workaround?

    Stefan,

could you please provide a German version in the German forum? I mean, very short,
only the most important points? I cannot understand how to adjust my Windows Vista.

    Danke im voraus!!
    Gruß,

    Bernhard

    Re: Vista Workaround?

Hoory, I did it! CPT is working also on my Vista machine.
I run the compatibility tool after following the link in my Vista help file: I looked for "compatibility/Kompatibilität" and
    Vista led me the way!

    I'm HAPPY! :)
