    Re: Chess engines

    Hello

    I had a fun day today getting the CPT to work with Shredder.

    The upshot is that it works !!

    1. Get and install Shredder Classic Demo Download (If you don't have it! I downloaded Shredder Classic 2)

    2. Get PolyGlot

    3. Get Cygwin1.dll

    4. unzip PolyGlot and copy the folder PolyGlot_14 into C:\Program Files\Chess Position Trainer 3.2 (This isn't essential but I am including it for clarity)

    5. In the directory C:\Program Files\Chess Position Trainer 3.2\PolyGlot_14 create a file called polyglot.ini and put the text in between the lines below into it and save the file (N.B. Hash is the amount of Memory in Mb that you wish to dedicate)

    -------------------------------------------------Cut After This -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    [PolyGlot]

    EngineDir = C:\Program Files\ShredderChess\Shredder Classic 2
    EngineCommand = EngineClassic2.exe

    [Engine]

    Hash = 128

    -------------------------------------------------Cut Before This -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    6. Now unrar/zip the cygwin1.dll and place it into the polyglot_14 folder

    7. Now go up a directory into C:\Program Files\Chess Position Trainer 3.2 and open ChessPositionTrainer.exe.config

    8. Change

    <Path value="C:\xboard\crafty-19-17FEN.exe"/>
    <CommandLine value="xboard"/>

    To

    <Path value="C:\Program Files\Chess Position Trainer 3.2\PolyGlot_14\polyglot.exe"/>
    <CommandLine value=""/>

    8. Now Open CPT and from the Menu Select Extras --> Options and tab along to the ChessEngineTab

    8. Browse to the polyglot.exe in C:\Program Files\Chess Position Trainer 3.2\PolyGlot_14\polyglot.exe

    9. Uncheck the other options.

    10. Press OK

    11. Click the Engine Button on the toolbar and Shredder is Shredding for you.

    I am now going to go on and see if I can get other engines up and running.
