Hi Stefan
Great work so far, as expected, my initial observations are:
1. The original "Blank" screen is confusing until you successfully create a new repertoire.
2. The "Skins" icon is also confusing until you realise they are the "Background colours" I thought they were navigation buttons. They are probably best hidden away (as they are also available from the dropdown menu).
3. The concept of the "White" / "Black" opening repertoire is great. Listing the openings by name is also excellent.
4. Creating a new file is easy - the wizard will ask you whether it's for White or Black. [note: The file extension should be *.cpt - you may need to check this and rename with the ".cpt" extension (as I did) when re-loading the program as it did not find the previously created file.]
5. Importing from v3.2 / v.3.3 is very easy. Each repertoire becomes an opening below the White/Black folders (depending on your choice). At this point you think "Should my "Semi-Slav 6. Bxf6" be a variation below "Semi-Slav" , rather than a main opening?
Question: What's the best way of moving, if wanted, an "Opening" [e.g. Semi Slav 6. Bxf6 and Semi-Slav 6. Bh4] into a "Variation" below an existing opening, say called "Semi-Slav" ?
Question: [Refering to Navigation tree/Window] Are there any limits on the number of a) Openings within each "White"/ "Black" folder, b) limits on variations within an opening, and c) any limits on sub-variations (or even sub-sub variations)?
6. The arrows indicating "candidate" moves is very informative. [I find arrows better than borders]
7. The main "Opening" folder is called "Standard" with "White and "Black" below it.
Question: How do you create and name other folders at the same level as "Standard" ?
8. Other questions/comments:
a) Can you utislise the sounds to announce the moves (as with Fritz)?
b) Will the DGT Board be supported at a later date?
c) Are (or will ) comments (be) available? They did not import from the previous version.
d) Position Explorer: The tooltip concept is good - I'm sure this will be invaluable later.
e) Notation: This appears a little feint on both my desktop and laptop PC's
9. ... and finally, The Training Module
Comment: For me this is the core of the system; it's everything I want - testing myself against my learned lines. If this module mirrors what you have in CPT 4.0 so far, then, please do not let my opponents get their hands on it! Sometimes it would be useful to see what "Opening variation" is selected, as I have often played the wrong moves, not realising I'm in the wrong "Opening" [Well that's my excuse anyway!]
Kind regards
Dave
