    Transpositions

I may be crazy. I have posted on this issue before and left it alone. Now that the official release is out, and I still find it, I'm concerned. I remember in CPT3, specifically, that transpositions would suggest themselves when a previous position was reached by a new move order. I began inputting a repertoire by hand tonight and was never suggested a single transposition. When the book I was referring to pointed out a specific transposition, I looked and found no such suggestion in the movelist from CPT4. I was not working in a different opening, repertoire, or variation/subvariation as in my last post. The transposition was to another position from the same subvariation, simply by a different move order. As before, when I played the move it immediately showed the previous line, and remained as an option upon backing up. I can not possibly spot every transposition even in a single opening, much less between variations/subvariations, openings, and even repertoires. I expected CPT4 to have this functionality. Was I asking too much or is this just a feature requiring some more TLC in future updates?

    Thank you for your time,

    Re: Transpositions

    Hi Matthew,

it is on my feature wish list and will be implemented. This type of transpositions detection requires some programming though as CPT has to somehow calculate and iterate through all possible moves for a given position and check if the move does not exist yet, but leads to an already existing position. Then the function should not slow down the program (especially if you want to quickly run through your opening).

I will soon launch a new community solution which will make it easier to suggest new featuers, vote for them and then track the status.

    Kind regards,

    Stefan

    Re: Transpositions

Awesome! Can I safely assume the feature will work retroactively when implemented? I would hate to continue building a repertoire if work completed before the feature is activated would not contain all transpositions. I wouldn't mind a "find transpositions in repertoire" button for just that case, even if the search took hours, as it would be preferable to putting off my efforts until later.

    Re: Transpositions

Yes, this will be something the user has to actively execute and nothing which happens in the background while entering moves. So you will be able to run the function anytime. No disadvantage to continue your work now.

    Kind regards,

    Stefan
