    some suggestions

I used CPT3 for a few years and it has been really useful for me.  I've just been trying out CPT4 for a few days now.  Here are a few suggestions...

    1. In my repertoire file, I have a "standard" rep, and in that I have black and white folders.  I also have an "inactive" rep (openings that I put aside or gave up), also containing black and white folders.  When I browse through my standard/black openings, for example, the candidate moves window shows all candidate moves associated with all reps/folders/openings. Can there be a way to exclude from the candidate move list anything that comes from another folder?

    2. I trained though one particular opening in complete line mode and eventually it told me no more non-learned positions exist.  I maxed out the line complexity settings, and still the same message.  Is there a way to continue to train in complete line mode for re-enforcement?

    3.  Sometimes when training, I get an idea to stop and do analysis at a certain position.  Can there be a way to immediately exit training mode and go back to the explorer mode, going directly to the position from the training mode?

    Thanks

    Re: some suggestions

    Hi,

    1) I would have suggested to you to move these openings to another repertoire (within the same database), but at the moment even these transpositions would be detected. I will change this behaviour in the future. That would be certainly the easiest way as you can drag & drop items easily.

    2) I'm afraid. Once you have learned a line you have to switch to one of the two recall modes (preferrable scheduled).

    3) At the moment you can only use the "mark position" function. I have to admit I was wishing such a feature myself too in the past. One possibility would be to adjust the repertoire module accordingly to the last trained opening and position (as it works the other way around when you switch from the repertoire module to the training module). Actually I wanted to do it this way originally, but then considered it to be a little bit too extreme to do this automatically. I will think about it a little bit more. If you have any suggestion how to implement your desired goal, please share your idea (or anybody else!

    Kind regards,

    Stefan

    Re: some suggestions

    Some quick thoughts

    1) The evaluation symbols have a problem in my pc. I think you use fonts, and they dont show well in some non-latin bases windows versions

I dont see the unclear symbol and the += symbol  misses the - from the +

     2) One thing that i surely miss is subtags. At least one two levels more

     3) Copy - paste method, copies moves but not the structure (variations + tags). So when you want to move-copy an opening you have to  recreate the whole structure (at least i did not find a way to do it)

     4) It would be nice to comment with arrows, squares , circles over the board. Some times they tell much more than a lot of words

    5) One click expand-collapse for variations-subvariations. They always open expanded and you might want to save space.

    6) It would be good if import-export to pgn supported the structure one created for the opening (variations-subvariations)

For example a comment of the type #2..e6# would mean that everything from now on is under  variation 2...e6

if somewhere down the line i have ##5.f4## it means that everything after that is under the subvariation (which is a child of the previous parent)

Not hard and can support recursively as many nested steps you like just counting the #

That way , importing - exporting would not lose the structure.

    Re: some suggestions

Mine doesn't show the - from the + as well, so an unclear symbol looks like the lower cased letter "L" over an equals sign (It should be a plus over an equal sign.)

    Re: some suggestions

    Also

    7) Export LEAF nodes to EPD only. So one can analyse those with an engine and then import them back. Backsolve and everything the opening has evaluations everywhere.

    Re: some suggestions

Thank you for your suggestions and reporting the symbol issue.

With subtags you mean additional sub-sub-sub-variations or something completely different?

    7) this option already exists. If you use the export EPD function you can check the box "export only leaf nodes (otherwise all)".

    Thanks,

    Stefan

    Re: some suggestions

Exporting to pgn will not export computer evaluations.

Also if i want to import computer evaluations with pgn import, what will be the format??

Havent checked with epd (does it support evaluation import?)

    8) Is it possible to show material difference. I mean its really time consuming to count the piece all the time

    Re: some suggestions

    Stefan,

Thanks for your reply to my original post.  Some follow-up comments...

    1.  OK.  I look forward to the future change in transp detection behavior preventing detection between repertoires in databases and between folders within repertoires.  I want to keep separate multiple repertoires within the same database, without intermixing their candidate move lists.  (especially want to avoid mixing of candidate moves from opposite color repertoires)

    2.  It is a disappointment that the complete line training mode can not be used after the sub-repertoire is initially "learned".  In CPT3, I often used the training mode to brush-up on certain lines that I previously learned to 100% but hadn't looked at in some while.  (usually as preparation for a tournament; limited study time available).  I did that by setting the explorer board to a specific position from which the lines of interest followed, and then I used training mode from that position to reinforce and test myself (although annoying was the requirement to play a line 10x after a wrong move was made).   In CPT4, the scheduled position recall mode is a good idea, but the user has no control over what positions will be tested or when; it seems more practical for someone who knows the line sequences well and trains frequently.  Please reconsider adding a complete line recall-type training mode so that certain lines of the user's choice can be trained at will.

    3.  Regarding the mark position function, how do you find all the marked positions in explorer mode?  It would be good if when marking a position, the user can write in some comments at that time so that the user can later read the reason why they marked the position.  In explorer mode, it would be good if a list of all the marked positions can be displayed so that the user can jump to any of those positions quickly.

One other new item to my suggestion list...

    4.  I imported my CPT3 repertoire, and I find that in many positions where the opponent color has a branch only the first listed move is checked "best" (I never used the best move designation feature, so I guess this is the default behavior).  As a result, in the complete line learning mode only the line following from that first listed opponent move is trained.  The idea behind "best move" makes most sense at branches for the color side the user is training.  However, I would like to train lines that follow from all opponent color branches (even if not designated as "best", I entered them as candidates for some reason worth training).  Can there be a way to do this?  If I had to search out all the branches and check all of the "best" check boxes it would take a really long time!

    Thanks

    David
